About Rancho Rio Grande
Rancho Rio Grande in the summer

Rancho Rio Grande was established in 1980 by Judy Caldwell because of her love of the Morgan Horse. With her husband Chet, they shared this love with their daughter Kristin Caldwell Keating, when Kristin began riding lessons as a young girl. Kristin's first horse was a Morgan (Reed's Red Robin), and from that beginning came a decades-long career of riding, training, showing and breeding. Our goal is to breed World Champion Park and English Pleasure horses with beauty, top quality and talent.

Rapidan Eldorado standing by the cottonwoods

We continue this tradition today in the beautiful and historic Rio Grande Valley of northwest Albuquerque.

In the fall, thousands of colorful hot air balloons rise above the farm during the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.

During winter months the majestic snow-capped Sandia Mountains tower above our barn and training arenas.

With the spring and summer months, focus turns to the lush irrigated pastures where brood mares and young stock graze beneath graceful age-old cottonwood trees.

Rancho Rio Grande Main Entrance

Rancho Rio Grande's manicured lawns and landscaped fields stand as a proud landmark in this historic agricultural village that is just minutes from Albuquerque's International Sunport.

Weather Vane

With Albuquerque's year-round temperate climate, Rancho Rio Grande is a perfect setting to raise two or three top contenders for the World Champion show ring each year.

We select proven World Champion stallions for our breedings, complimenting the champion performance mares owned by Rancho Rio Grande.
